Concussion Awareness Workshop

Munster Concussion Awareness Workshop to be hosted by Garrett Coughlan from the IRFU at the Clubhouse on Wednesday December 10th at 7.30 pm
This is a big issue at the moment and it would be great to get as many coaches as possible to attend, I think we really need at least 1 from each age group. There is no charge for attending.

Re-starting the Club

sean conolly RIP“When I came here in 1949 I had been playing senior rugby with Bohemians. At the time Des Torrens, he owned Knox's and played rugby for Ireland and Bohemians, had got into him to make sure I continued playing. There was no rugby team here in Ennis then. Des Torrens picked me up for training twice a week because in those days I didn’t have a car, and during the course of our trips we discussed starting a rugby club in Ennis.

Frank Cassidy had been the secretary when the rugby club was disbanded back in the thirties. So we called a meting and we decided to start the club again. I couldn’t become captain, because I was a senior player and in those days you couldn’t field junior and senior players without getting regraded. The first captain was Ernie Keaveney and I was the second captain.

We depended a lot on lads coming here from the Banks and we also got a lot coming from around the county - the O’Loughlins from Ennistymon, John McInerney from Ennistymon, Kieran Wall from Ennistymon and then we got Charlie Glynn from Kilrush. Then some of the lads that were playing Gaelic football and hurling here decided they wanted to play even though they were likely to be suspended.
