Boost for Ennis RFC as captain Moloney returns from UL Bohs
SENIOR A.I.L rugby player Joe Moloney has returned from a two-year stint at UL Bohs to captain Ennis RFC for the coming season.
Pre-season training for the Ennis Senior team begins in the last week of July and Barefield native Moloney says that he believes Ennis can bounce straight back to Junior Division 2 after a heart-breaking final day of last season.
Moloney returns to the Ennis set-up having spent two successful seasons with UL Bohs in Limerick. Bohs finished in a respectable mid-table position in A.I.L Division 1B and Moloney is hoping to bring some of the experience he gained at that level to the Ennis set-up.
The 31-year-old hooker added that it's a great honour to captain a club he's been involved with since U16 level.
"Ennis is a great club to be involved with and I'm really looking forward to training with all the lads.
"The set-up here is second to none and there's a great group of people running the club. There are some talented young players along with the more experienced lads and there's great optimism within the group that it can be a successful season for us."
Meanwhile Ennis RFC has appointed senior player Stuart Holly as its new P.R.O.
The 31-year-old — who is also a member of the senior set-up — was approached by the club to take on the role due to his background in journalism, currently working as a reporter for The Clare People newspaper.
Stuart said he was delighted to take on the role and welcomed anybody with an interest in rugby to join the club.
"Ennis RFC has a fantastic set-up from minis all the way to senior level where we have teams competing in two leagues, catering for players of all levels," said Stuart.
"It's great to have a player of Joe's experience on board as our captain but equally we would like to invite any potential new members to come up and join the club.
"Ennis RFC has brilliant training facilities at the Showgrounds, including a fantastic clubhouse, weights gym, AstroTurf pitches as well as our main pitch."
