Ennis 62 10 Corca Dhuibhne

Ennis began their league campaign in fine style by running in 10 tries aganst a poor Corca Dhuibhne side.

Playing with a strong wind, the home side were quickly out of the blocks and registered their first score of the day inside 2 minutes when Mark Taylor crossed in the corner after a period of sustained pressure from the kick off. The conversion was unsuccessful.

On the restart, Ennis gave away a succession of penalties that yielded good field position for the away team. It all culminated in a clearing kick from Ronan O'Halloran being charged down and Corca Dhuibhne won the race to dot down under the posts and take a 7-5 lead.

This spurred Ennis into action and the rest of the half was one way traffic as tries from Conor Collins and 2 for Enda Galvin wrapped up the bonus point and left Ennis with a 24-7 lead at half time.

The second half turned into a rout with Ennis running amok to plunder 6 tries. The first try of the half came from a lovely incision into the line by full back Eoin O'Ceallaigh after a solid scrum released the backs. Further scores from Keelan Butler (2), Cian Guilfoyle (2) and the coup de grace from an airborne Tony White wrapped up the scoring and gave Ennis its biggest win in many a year.

Whilst the paucity of the opposition has to be factored into any analysis of the performance, there were very encouraging displays from a host of young debutantes with Keelan Butler in particular adding dynamism and leadership to the team. All in all then, a good start but still a lot to do.
