Bonus Point win in Cork

Douglas 19 Ennis 41

In perfect conditions in Cork on Sunday, Ennis opened up their 2019/20 league campaign with a 41-19 demolition of Douglas.

The home team took an early 7-0 lead after a defensive mix up let them through under the posts. Ennis rallied well after the sluggish start and tries from Ronan O’Halloran and Harry Talty gave Ennis a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Douglas capitalised on more hesitation in the Ennis defence to level up the match at 12 apiece but, in truth, Ennis were starting to dominate the game and it came as no surprise when an Enda Galvin try on the stroke of half time pushed the score out to 19-12.

Immediately upon the resumption, Mikey Lyons split the home defence to score the bonus point try and the result was never in doubt after that. Douglas were struggling to cope with the pace and width of the Ennis attack and another try duly arrived on the hour mark as Cian Guilfoyle was set free down the blindside wing to make the score 31-12.

Ennis rang the changes for the final quarter but their dominance continued and further tries from Enda Galvin and Stephen Dolan rounded off the win. Ennis play host to Killarney in Drumbiggle next Sunday at 14.30.
